It keeps the little children playing
And bigger children spread the word

Kat sighed slightly in frustration as she watched her daughter. She wouldn’t have minded that the three year old girl was having such fun if it hadn’t been one hundred degrees outside. Oh, and Mariella refused to go to another ride, making Kat sit and watch her go up and down on the Frog Hopper for a straight hour. Of course, this wasn’t the worst thing she had faced in her life. No, being a nephilim — a Shadowhunter — she had seen monstrously nightmarish things and so much more. As the ride came to a stop, Kat forced a smile pass her exhaustion as Mariella begun clapping her hands screaming for it to go again.
The man controlling the ride looked at her with a questioningly look. She knew he wanted to know if her daughter would be staying on her seat or if he could finally help her down. She shook her head. If she had to stay here another moment, she was going to start ripping her hair out. Mariella didn’t see it that way. She started crying immediately when the man picked her up and brought her to Kat’s open arms. As Kat took her daughter in her arms, she thanked the man and hurried away from the ride her daughter loved so much. Still, Kat knew something Ella loved just as much if not more. So, ignoring her daughter’s tearful pleas and struggles, she headed off to one of the Dippin’ Dots stands.
“One small strawberry dots and one large mocha frappe” she said when it was her turn to order. “The drink not dots.”
Grabbing them, she took a seat at one of the tables letting Mariella settle comfortably on her lap. Mariella stopped crying soon as she saw the little bowl of frozen micro balls. Kat drank her frappe and watched her daughter eat with delight. Ella could really be a pain in the ass at times, especially now that Kat was a single mother without the support of her family. She loved the girl though — right down to the pretty blond curly locks that she inherited from her father. Though, Kat couldn’t say she was happy about who that may be. She was content with Ella being hers and hers alone.
“Is it yummy, Ella?” she asked, taking a sip of her frappe as she smiled down at her daughter.
Ella nodded feverishly but didn’t take the time to fully answer as she finished her dots. Kat laughed to the little empty bowl, shifted Ella and got to her feet with Ella planted on her hip. She walked over to the nearby garbage can and tossed the bowl before turning to retrieve her unfinished drink only to collide with something that suddenly got in her way.
“Sorry,” she said as soon as she saw that the something she collided into was actually a someone.
