We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones .
Arianna had always wanted to visit Times Square. It's crowded sidewalks, it's busy streets, it's tall buildings blazoned with lights and advertisements; they were all part of one of the most iconic images of New York City. The stores, the shops, the cafes, the people! The sites, the sounds, the potential for adventure! Such a hub of activity, how could she not be drawn to it?
This unmistakeable draw is what had led her to stand where she stood at this moment. Unfortunately for her, this irrepressible urge to visit the Square had struck her at the most inopportune time. It was three o'clock in the morning, you see. There was not a single soul in sight. The streets were deserted, a lone cab passing through every now and again. The lights still blazed, advertising a multitude of products to no one. It was abnormally quiet, the raucous chatter and rumble of traffic replaced by the sound of far-off sirens.
This did not seem to deter the young Shadowhunter. She was still very much impressed; it was no question why this was the place to be for mundanes on New Years Eve. It was thrilling, in it's own odd way; she imagined this is how the place may look post-apocalypse, everything perfectly preserved and eerily still.
She began to walk at a steady pace down the sidewalk, eyes roaming incessantly. It was obvious that, despite the late hour, she wasn't expecting trouble. Glamour and armor free, she was outfitted in dark blue jeans, old sneakers, and a short sleeved v-neck t-shirt, a deep green color and made of a light material. Her stele was tucked into her back pocket, and a pair daggers were at her belt, concealed beneath the hem of her shirt. Was she out to hunt demons this night? Not at all. If one came along, however, she was plenty prepared to deal with it. At least in her own mind, she was.
It occurred to her at some point that she was not entirely sure how she'd gotten here from the Institute, and thus was not entirely sure how to make her way back. This thought was short lived, and was quickly pushed to the back of her mind. Getting lost was all part of the fun, after all. She'd find her way back. Eventually. Or maybe someone would call, looking for her. The latter was unlikely; she had not been at the New York Institute very long, and she wasn't too terribly familiar with the other Shadowhunters just yet. Also slim was the chance that she'd run into someone helpful. Most out and about at this hour were up to no good. Including herself, to some degree. She was always up to no good, should the situation call for it. That though brought a small smile to her lips.
She was always up for company. Barring winos, drug addicts, and other such weird unsavory types, of course.

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ With Javan snoring in the den and the TV still blaring right across from him, it was no wonder Cadrian couldn’t fall asleep. Not, that she wasn’t used to this; her older brother—however much he admitted it—was usually making a lot of noise this early in the morning, whether he was watching TV, coming home from a demon hunt, or making a very early grocery run. In all honesty, who went grocery shopping at one in the morning? Apparently, a lot of people, since there were small shops open that early in the morning and very busy. She’d know, because her dearest elder brother had dragged her out numerous times in order to have some company, willing or not. Most of the time, she was unwilling, but he’d caught her on a couple of good days, which was a rarity since Cadi very much enjoyed her sleep.
She unhitched herself from her bed begrudgingly, rubbing her tired eyes and adjusting them to the darkness. It didn’t take long for her to see everything in her room, she very used to wandering around in the nighttime. She avoided turning on her bedroom light, because even though Javan was sleeping, he had these sorts of psycho brother senses that would know that his little sister was up and about. She saw a pair of jeans overhanging her desk chair and stood up and threw them on. They hugged her figure quite nicely, feeling more like comfy sweats than tight jeans. She picked up a tank top from the floor—that wasn’t dirty, like hell she’d wear something she’d already worn that week—and slid it over the pajama tank top she’d already had on. Looking outside to see the pitch blackness, Cadi wondered how it could be so humid so early in the morning.
Quietly, she made her way past her soundly sleeping brother, but not before smiling and throwing a blanket over his shoulder. He squirmed a little, but Cadi knew he was out like a light. She shut the TV, which was currently playing NCIS and made her way out the door, grabbing her cell phone which she’d left on the kitchen counter. Her brother normally didn’t mind her going out late—he was used to the fact that yes, she was Nephilim and she could take care of herself—but if she’d forgotten her cell phone and he tried to call her, she’d never hear the end of it.
Her quaint walk took her to Times Square, a place she usually dreading because of all the commotion and people and business. But in the early hours, there was hardly a soul to be found. She looked around, saw that the advertisements on the big screens were still being projected as if the planes circling above the city could see them and as if the passengers would actually pay attention. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw something move in the shadows and was thankful she’d remembered to tuck her seraph blade in between her jeans and cool skin. She reached for it, almost ready to strike, when she saw that it was another girl—another Nephilim girl. Well, that would have been a bad thing, had she struck her. There was an unspoken rule that you weren’t supposed to aimlessly attack a fellow Shadowhunter.
She sighed; only glad she’d caught the figure in time. “Couldn’t sleep either?”
she called as she neared the girl. We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones .
Arianna was thoroughly distracted. More with her own thoughts than her surroundings. Granted, her thoughts were brought on by her surroundings. The novelty of the place was beginning to wear off, and her focus had shifted to window shopping. Why they kept the lights on this late, she'd never know. If they were trying to influence late night shoppers, they'd struck out with her; she'd never actually buy any of these things! It was always nice to look, see what tourists and other people with loads of money might be purchasing.
Thus distracted, she wasn't aware that she wasn't alone until the other person spoke. Outwardly calm, inwardly, she'd nearly had a heart attack. 'I must pay more attention! It's three AM, for goodness sake!' she thought, mentally scolding herself for her inattention. She turned to face the stranger who'd spoken. Thankfully, and perhaps oddly, this other girl was another Nephilim. Had she been a demon, or perhaps someone harboring ill will, she'd have been in some trouble.
She turned, eyes moving over the girl in a quick assessment. She was a Nephilim, that much she knew, but that was all; she'd never seen her before. Arianna hadn't been in New York long, so it was a distinct possibility that this girl lived at the Institute, and she herself just hadn't seen her yet. Or perhaps she didn't live at the Institute, and she hadn't had the opportunity to meet her before now. Granted, this was an odd time to be meeting one of her peers, but better late than never, right?
She lifted one shoulder in a half shrug, the corners of her mouth turning up in a small smile. "Yeah, you could say that. Seemed a good a time as any for some sight seeing." she replied, speech colored with that distinctive London accent. Frankly, she was glad that she wasn't the only Shadowhunter running about at this hour of the night. From the girl's question, it seemed like she was only out and about because she couldn't sleep. She couldn't judge; her own reason was rather...random. Unbelievable at the very least.
"Name's Arianna, by the way. Arianna Ravenscar." she added as an after thought. The young Shadowhunter wasn't entirely sure what sort impression she was making. Hopefully her willingness to wander around Times Square in the wee hours of the morning was a good thing, at least to this girl.

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ Her reactions told Cadi that she was nearly expecting trouble as well and the girl became thankful that her reflexes were as quick as hers. She looked thoroughly distracted, like she didn’t know exactly what she was looking for and Cadi wondered idly if she was from around town. She’s certainly never seen her before, but then again in the city, one tended to meet someone new everyday. Cadrian saw that she was looking her over, studying her like she was a threat and in response to this, she smiled to assure the girl she meant no harm. She began to imagine what the girl could be possibly looking at: she was in a mesh tank top with a light blue one underneath. It was nothing spectacular. Just about the only thing Cadi had going for her were her adorable little ballet flats that had a newsprint design on them. She remembered when Javan had bought them for her as last year’s birthday present, among with a little something else a.k.a. a new dagger or two. Aw, thinking on it, he really was the best big brother, even though he snored like a hog at times…
Cadi chuckled to her remark about sight seeing, feeling more comfortable as she came forth from the city shadows so that the girl could see her. “There’s not much to see around this time. You should come back around five or six in the morning. Rush hour. There’s lots to see then,”
she said and indicated to the big electronic billboards. Cadi hated rush hour; it was the worst position to be in, especially if you weren’t a morning person, which Cadi was not. The people were even more grumpy than usual, time seemed to slow down, and it was impossible to see where you were headed, so if you mingled with the wrong crowd and ended up in the Bronx, you were screwed. And the subways were even more horrible. Wait—why was she thinking about rush hour? They were a whole three hours from it. Cadi looked to a building and noticed one of the lights on; that’s right, businesses were starting to wake up at this hour. Maybe she’d pick up some nice warm bagels for her and Javan. Looking from the opening store to the girl, Cadi realized she was introducing herself. Good, she thought, friendly company. She’d met some not friendly company in the past and she didn’t do so well with keeping her mouth shut. “Nice to meet you, Arianna. My name’s Cadrian Heartwood. Feel free to call me ‘Cadi’, though,” she added, dreading being called Cadrian. It wasn’t that she hated her name, she just preferred her nickname. It was easier for people to register and it didn’t sound so foreign. Speaking of foreign…this girl’s accent was definitely a fluent British. Cadi’d know because she’d once been to England with her mother in the past and though she was young, she still remembered how strange all the people sounded to her. Putting this fact together with the fact that she looked utterly lost made Cadi raise the question of, “Pardon my asking, but are you new to the city?” She didn’t mean to make her feel unwelcomed or uncomfortable, but she felt the need to point out that it was obvious. We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones !
The girl made her way out of the shadows after a moment, thankfully, and Arianna was able to get a better look at her. Her previous scrutiny had left much to be desired, considering the young woman had been obscured. Obviously, her alarm had been unfounded. The girl was a fellow Nephilim, and was now wearing a rather friendly expression. The latter was a relief; she hadn't seen many friendly faces since arriving.
Arianna chuckled at her reply. "Rush hour must truly be an event if it's more interesting than all this." she said, waving a hand in a vague gesture to indicate the whole Square. She was not a fan of rush hour. Hell, she wasn't a fan of cars period; loud, dangerous machines that polluted the air in more ways than one in the hands of some truly reckless people. Not that she didn't know how to drive or anything. She had her license. Living in the big city, she'd found, often put most things within walking distance, so she rarely found it necessary to drive. Honestly, she wasn't a very good driver, anyway, and she was highly susceptible to road rage.
Coming out of her momentary reverie, she followed the girl's gaze, noting the lights that had come on in one of the near by businesses. She was faintly surprised; what an ungodly hour to begin work. But then again, some places had to start getting ready at three a.m. for the crowd that'd be coming at six a.m. Count her out, for sure; she was not a morning person, and would rather run about all night than wake up so early.
She was infinitely pleased when the girl followed with her own introduction. Cadrian, what an interesting name. A bit of a mouthful, but nice nonetheless. "A pleasure to meet you as well, Cadi." she said, and smiled. Her first American friend, how exciting!
A grin formed at Cadi's question. "What gave me away first, the vacant, lost look or the accent?" she asked, and laughed. "Yes, this is my first time in New York. First time away from London, actually." she added. Not that the two cities were so different; both had that same overwhelming energy, the hustle and bustle near constant. Of course here, she was completely lost; on the other hand, she knew the streets of London well. Like the back of her hand, in fact. All the more reason for her to more thoroughly explore this city. It wouldn't do if she got lost while out demon hunting. Perhaps Cadi could help her in this regard. Her question hinted that she was a native to the Big Apple; bet she didn't get lost!

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ Cadi thought about her response. “Well truthfully, it’s the people who are interesting. Rush hour itself is actually quite a drag. To get from one end of the square to another could take anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes on a bad day.”
She’d been stuck in the Square for a half an hour once and it was not fun at all. She’d even called Javan just to talk to someone other than the cigar smoking fellow next to her in line. Not to mention she’d been in heels that morning and as a result, had nearly been run over five or six times. Honestly, cabs should know the different between a cross walking and a bull’s-eye. Where’d they get their licenses anyway? From a cereal box? Cadi didn’t have her license, but she was pretty damn sure she could drive better than any of the city folk. She seemed rather surprised that businesses were opening at this time. Cadri shrugged lightly; she’d been around shopping earlier than this. Actual shopping, not just helping the staff out. They had to get ready for the bustle of rush hour, she knew. If they weren’t prepared, they lost a lot of money and in New York City, losing money was something people couldn’t afford to do. Cadi and her brother were just fortunate enough to receive salary directly from the Clave. The girl was very pleased with Cadi’s introduction and she was glad. Cadi liked the idea of first impressions and it was apparent she hadn’t come off as the adventurous, straight forward girl she really could be. Well, if Arianna cared to stick around any longer, she’d find out eventually. It wasn’t like she tried to hide it. She figured it was already beginning to form in the other girl’s mind, seeing as she was openly walking around looking for trouble this early in the morning. And by looking for trouble, she meant patrolling for the mundanes’ sake, of course. Sure… Cadi laughed along with her, her question really was very unnecessary, wasn’t it? It was written all over her face. “Probably the vacant expression,” she said and chuckled again. Aw, Arianna had the same sense of humor she did. This friendship would work out nicely. Now all she had to do was inquire about her idea of “fun.” She nodded when she stated it was first time away from London. “Well, welcome to the Big Apple,” Cadi said and gave a big, grand wave of her hand to gesture to the tall buildings and blinding billboards. She then smiled in a friendly manner, mocking a tour guide and said quite like one, “If there’s anywhere you’d like to go, let me know and I will happily point you in the right direction.” She then laughed slightly; her impersonation had really become spot-on. She’d have to show Javan later. [/blockquote][/blockquote] ------ ------ ------ Word Count: four eight two Tags: Arianna Notes: Imagine this perky, annoying tour guide. We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones !
Arianna thought a moment about her response. No doubt the people caught in rush hour could be interesting. If they weren't too busy being angry or irritated, of course. The Square was nice to look at now, but she was positive that after thirty minutes, she'd have had enough. The prospect of sitting around, waiting, for half an hour was enough to make her frown. Playing chicken with the traffic sounded more appealing. She was very action oriented; time spent doing nothing was time wasted.
Amusement was evident in the way one brow rose, the corners of her mouth turning up in a smile. Vacant expression, indeed. She could tell she was going to like this girl. Whether or not she was an adventurous sort remained to be seen. Though, that wasn't entirely true. She was out and about at 3 am, after all. Maybe this was normal for her? Though, this was late, even for Shadowhunters. Well, she wasn't going to find out if she didn't stick around! Or flat out ask. Not that being out at 3 am really qualified as an adventure, per se. Yeesh, she was over thinking this.
Cadi's grand wave and painfully forced smile made her laugh outright. A local, most assuredly; no one could so perfectly imitate one of those incredibly irritating tour guides without having had heard them a million times. She could tell she was sincere, even through the overwhelming perkiness. "Oh yes, I know, I'd like to go 'away'." she replied, tone joking.
"Honestly though, anything interesting around here?" She turned away and walked a ways down the sidewalk before spinning on her heel to look back to Cadi. Was she still stuck on the sightseeing thing? Not a chance. "A party, perhaps? Maybe some trouble to get into?" she asked, a sly grin spreading over her face. The truth comes out. All night, she'd gone without even a bit of shenanigans or a hint of mischief. By her count, she was way overdue. Now she'd find out if Cadi was the sort who didn't mind some disorderly conduct. Arianna very much hoped she was. She would love to have a partner in crime, so to speak.
Admittedly, their options were limited, so late. Ah, but she wasn't one to think so negatively! The city never truly slept, but most of it's inhabitants would be. What better time than now? Cadi would know for sure. If they had to stick to the straight and narrow, doing some actual demon hunting was always an option. Arianna hadn't killed anything since she got out here, anyway.

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ She was glad she’d made the girl laugh so easily. Cadi really hated the tough-crowd type of people. She knew a couple of those, mainly some of the Midwinter boys and some of Javan’s friends, and they weren’t exactly a thrill to hang out with. This girl was going to be different, she could tell positively, like a really close friend you knew you had but could never find. Cadi was just happy that her painful practicing of imitating a tour guide paid off finally. Why she’d even forced herself to, she didn’t know. Perhaps it all started with that one week she was stuck in bed with the flu and she watched the travel channel… “Yeah, it is pretty annoying, huh?”
she asked with a giggle. “Honestly though, anything interesting around here?” she asked and Cadi’s ace nearly fell, her jaw slumping slightly from its normal position. Was she—she had to be kidding. She was in New York City! The city that never slept! Of course there was something interesting! Then she proceeded to walk away from Cadi like she knew exactly where she was going and what she was going to see. This made Cadi shake her head incredulously and because of her surprise, she had to jog to now catch up to the girl. She fell in foot and heard something about a party. She smirked. “Sure, there are parties. There’s Hot Wings, which has its own DJ; Fuss right down the street; Exuberance, but you need an in to get through security and unfortunately, I don’t have that-“ Ooh, she said the word trouble. Cadi’s favorite word. Along with fight or spar. “-but that doesn’t mean it can hold back a couple of Nephilim girls. I’ve glamoured my way inside before.” That’d been a fun night, until Javan found out about it and scolded her for sneaking out. She was pleasantly surprised to find that Arianna, little miss London, was a mischief maker. There weren’t many of those that Cadi knew. Well, that wasn’t true. There were plenty of dumb trouble makers, ones that got caught easily or got too drunk to have any real fun, but Arianna didn’t seem that way. She looked like the cunning, planning type of trouble maker. Just like Cadi. Huh, she was beginning to feel close to her already. “But if it’s a fight you’re looking for, all you have to do is walk into Sweet Tooth. It’s a vampire-run sweets shop, a quaint little place really, and they don’t take kindly to girls like us,” she said and winked. Cadi tapped the seraph blade under her shirt and grinned. Maybe they could go hunting together one time. It’d surely beat fighting alongside her brother for a change. Not, that he was not-fun to fight with, but she knew all his moves, knew his weaknesses even. She was curious about Arianna and was desperately seeking change. We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones !
The young Shadowhunter couldn't help but grin at Cadi's incredulous expression. Her question had been rather unbelievable, after all. No doubt there was always something to do in this city, if you knew where to look. Unfortunately, Arianna didn't know where to look. Yet. She was positively itching to get into the thick of it, the fun and the fighting and everything that came with it. She just needed a guide, perhaps a friend. It was highly likely she'd found both in Cadi.
She was intrigued by the list of options the other girl mentioned. The clubs sounded interesting, for sure, but she wasn't really in the mood for loud music, or for the shouting to be heard that'd come with it. There'd be a time for that later. That Cadi seemed to light up at the mention of trouble pleased her infinitely. She herself had had the misfortune of being surrounded by fellow Nephilim who stuck to the rigid straight and narrow most of her life; sticks in the mud, the lot of them.
The prospect of mischief was always an interesting one, especially when the place sounded so odd. "A sweet shop...run by vampires?" she asked, a brow raised, her voice echoing disbelief. "This, I must see." Her curiosity would not be denied. And if the vampires inside took issue, (which, according to Cadi, they most certainly would), she was definitely up for a brawl. She was armed, though her favorite weapon, a clawed gauntlet, was back at the Institute. Not that she'd actually use the blades she carried; a scrap she was in for, but seriously injuring someone was not on her list. Besides, she didn't have anything against vampires, or other downworlders, for that matter. Only a bit of potentially harmful-but-not-seriously-harmful fun was the plan.
Her pace slowed, her gaze returning to Cadi. "Well, I hope we're heading in the right direction, because I've no idea where it is." she said matter-of-factly, a lop-sided smile on her face. Arianna had hardly been aware she'd started walking to begin with; motion was her default state, after all. Frankly, she wouldn't be surprised if she'd led them off the wrong way. Her sense of direction left much to be desired, especially when it came to wandering an unfamiliar place.
Further thought may have made her realize that this was probably not the best way to introduce herself to some of the city's vampires. Maybe she'd think of that later. More likely she'd be in damage control mode later. This was the furthest thing from her mind right now, however.

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ Finally walking step in step with Arianna, Cadi readjusted her ballet flats so that they weren’t slowly slipping off her heels. “A sweet shop…run by vampires?” she asked in such a way that Cadi couldn’t help but laugh. She already liked this girl and could foresee many late night adventures with her. This please Cadi and Javan wouldn’t be able to complain, considering she was out with another girl and not one of the Midwinter boys. Though Cadi highly doubted she’d ever go out hunting with one of them…maybe besides the youngest son. He was actually really cute, but Cadi had her suspicions that he played for the other team. Damn, why were all the hot ones gay? Mentally sighing, the Nephilim looked at Arianna in time to hear her say that she had to see this place. A grin formed on Cadi’s fine lips as she said, “You’ll love it, I know. They’ll get rowdy just from us walking in.”
Last time she walked by Sweet Tooth—she didn’t even walk in—they’d snarled at her like she was an untouchable. So much for the new Accords. Was it only Cadi who saw that they did nothing? Downworlders would still hate the Nephilim and the Nephilim would go on being discriminate against the Downworlders. Or, at least most of them. Cadi knew of a select few who chose to be friendly with them. In fact last time she’d heard, the Midwinters were one of those families, but they couldn’t be blamed. Apparently, they had Downworlder family…poor souls. Arianna was finally slowing down and Cadi slowed her pace with her, wondering what was wrong. As she explained that she had no idea where she was going, Cadi chuckled. “I’ve realized,” she joked. She looked around for a moment and caught signs and familiar buildings. She pointed ahead of them. “It’s a little ways down the road, but we’re heading in the right direction,” she said positively. As they continued their walk, Cadi realized that silence had finally dawned upon the two girls. She looked at Arianna, wondering what she was thinking about. Cadi was normally good at reading peoples’ emotions, but as to their thoughts, well, she wasn’t a witch. She just couldn’t do it to save her life. Her cell phone vibrated in her pocket, but she chose to ignore it. It was most likely one of Javan’s “be home by so and so time” messages, which she never replied to anyway. “So what’s London like?” she asked, a tad randomly. She was both curious and tired to being silent. Besides, with Arianna’s accent all during their conversation, who wouldn’t be curious? We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones !
Arianna found herself grinning. Cadi seemed just as enthusiastic about this venture as she was. She was beginning to feel like she'd found a kindred spirit of sorts. They'd only just met, and she couldn't remember the last time she'd laughed this much. Well, she could, but it'd been quite some time. She most definitely saw adventure in their future, maybe even some hunting. The prospect was an exciting one; she hadn't had a suitable hunting partner in ages, and normally went off alone. Ill advised, and dangerous, obviously.
“You’ll love it, I know. They’ll get rowdy just from us walking in.” While she was pleased they'd be picking a rather easy fight, that it was still so easy was mildly upsetting. Even after Downworlders were allowed on the Council so many years ago, there was still so much hatred floating about, on both sides. Granted, one couldn't dispel centuries of hatred in a decade or two, especially when certain downworlders had lived through those centuries. She couldn't lie; she still held that small streak of a holier-than-thou attitude when it came to downworlders, but she certainly didn't hate them. Deliberately antagonizing the vampires at Sweet Tooth probably wasn't helping, but really, if they didn't hate Nephilim so much, it wouldn't be so easy to get their dander up, yeah?
She laughed outright when Cadi told her they were actually headed off in the right direction. "Haha! Brilliant! Not bad for a foreigner, hm?" she said, grinning triumphantly. As they continued, the pair fell into silence. She liked to think it was a companionable sort of silence. She couldn't help but hear the faint sound of the other girl's phone vibrating; someone worried about her, perhaps? The silence was broken by a rather random question from Cadi.
"What's London like? Hmmm." She thought a moment. "It's not too different from here, really. Huge city, teeming with people. It's not quite so hot, and it rains more often than not. The people on the street are friendlier, though. It's...vibrant, and diverse, and manages to be both modern and historic at the same time." she said, sounding wistful. "It's got some great nightclubs, of course. Traffic is often terrible, though. The pigeons are awful. And it's severely lacking in the 'fun Shadowhunter' area, as well. And don't get me started on the tourists." she finished, eyebrows bobbing comically.

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ She was rather glad she’d decided to come out this early in the morning. Normally, she’d walk about aimlessly for twenty minutes or so, then head back, then tuck herself into bed and fall asleep again, but Cadi was surprisingly feeling more awake than usual. Perhaps it was just because she was in good company? Arianna seemed to be enjoying herself, too, which made Cadi feel good about herself. Not only was she an excellent source of entertainment and good, fun company, but she was also proving herself be a very knowledgeable tour guide. Huh, well if killing demons didn’t work out in the future, she supposed she now had something to fall back on. Ha-right, like killing demons wouldn’t work. It’d been working for her ever since she learned how to walk and hold a dagger.
Arianna commented on how well she was doing for a foreigner and Cadi laughed. She really wasn’t doing that bad; she’d guessed the right direction without a second thought. “Not bad at all,”
she agreed. “I guess we have our alien sense of tracking to thank for that,” she winked, referring to how a Nephilim could always figure out where to go no matter how foreign they were to the place. Cadi knew, anyway; Javan had taught her how to read the stars and such, like their father had taught him. On cue with her thoughts, her head raised to the sky for a moment. She frowned; with all the city lights, it was hard to see any stars at all. She didn’t think she saw a constellation. Maybe she’d head over to the Institute tomorrow night and borrow their elaborate telescope. She was brought back from her reverie when Arianna began to answer her question. This, Cadi was interested in. She wondered if London had changed ever since she’d been there as a little girl. To Arianna’s explanation, she smiled, subconsciously remembering her times there. She came up dry, the memories buried with time, but she supposed that her description of the place sounded like any other major city. She supposed nothing had changed since she was a child. “The pigeons?” she asked in a comical way that could rival Arianna’s playful eyebrows. The pigeons in New York City weren’t “awful”. They were daring and used to people, but they didn’t particularly bother her. In fact, sometimes Cadi liked to walk to central park to feed them. You know, when the Fey weren’t up and about. That was one race Cadi would much rather stay away from. [/blockquote][/blockquote] ------ ------ ------ Word Count: four two eight Tags: Arianna Notes: Sorry it's late! We are the wakeful, wry and watchfulWe're awaiting deathless ones !
Arianna had to admit, this had certainly been one of her more successful after-midnight jaunts. She rarely had company on such outings, and if she did, it was because they were strictly out on demon slaying business. It was refreshing to not only find herself along with someone else, but that this someone else was remarkably similar to herself. Like looking in a mirror and wanting to befriend what you see. Only not in a weird, narcissistic way.
Alien sense of direction indeed. Finding her way around London had never been a problem. But then, that was her home city. She'd managed to find Times Square with no problems. Maybe she'd have been able to find her way back to the Institute on her own. Even with her earlier pessimism about losing her way, she hadn't actually gotten lost. Yet. The night was young, after all. She noticed Cadi looking up, and cast her own gaze skyward curiously. Nothing caught her eye, and nary a star was visible in the blue-black of the sky. A city that never slept with lights that never dimmed. It made her think of the view of the sky in Idris, and how unlike this one it was. One could always see the stars from there.
Arianna cracked up at the bit of her little speech on London that Cadi chose to single out. "Yes, the pigeons! Awful little bold things, making a mess of every available perch they can, bobbing right in my way when I'm trying to walk down the sidewalk!" she said, waving her hands in a gesture of mock exasperation. Really, she didn't take issue with the pigeons too much. That is, until she nearly tripped over the little buggers. They were so unafraid of people at this point that it wasn't rare to find them underfoot.
The pair were making good time, moving a reasonable pace down the sidewalk. It wasn't long before she caught sight of their goal; the sign for Sweet Tooth, lit against the night. She raised her hands and began to braid her long blonde hair out of her face, tying it off with a hair tie from her wrist. It wouldn't do to have it unbound and flying in her view when the fighting began, as it inevitably would. Just thinking about it brought the beginnings of an adrenaline rush. She was shamelessly excited. She looked back to Cadi, a lopsided grin forming on her face. "That's it, right?"

LIKE EVERY SINGLE TREE REACH FOR THE SKY if you’re gonna fall, i’ll let you know that i will pick you up, like you for i ------ ------ ------ Cadi looked back at Arianna to see that she was questioning what she saw up in the sky. Under normal circumstances—okay, not normal; aka if she was in the presence of a hot guy—she would have been slightly bashful that she was looking up so randomly, but in front of Arianna, she found herself wondering what the other girl saw. Probably nothing, just as Cadi had, and it brought a slight disappointment to her when realizing this. She’d have to take Arianna to the Institute’s roof, where the fancy telescope was. One could see anything through that telescope; it was like looking at the inky sky in Idris. The New York City lights seemed to disappear in that device. Maybe that was why Cadi liked it so much. It was like going to another place, away from the buzzing of the city. She’d hardly been to Idris, only once in her life, and despite not knowing much about it, she missed it. It was still home, no matter how alien it was to her.
Okay, Cadi had to admit that she should have pointed out something other than the pigeons, but Arianna just made them sound so interesting and bastardly. She couldn’t help it. She laughed when Arianna said they always got in her way, walking right in the middle of her walk. “Then you’d love Central Park,”
she said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. “Talk about bold and troublesome.” She decided right then and there that she was going to take Arianna to Central Park, show her the pigeons, the fountains, the snack stands that were somehow out of this world. She and Javan had many memories in the park, from when she was little to last week when they went hunting there together. It’d been a Raum demon, of all demons. Needless to say, they both came home muddy and worn, but they’d been laughing hysterically like they’d seen the newest comedy movie. Was it sick when someone enjoyed killing something? It amazed the girl that they’d made it to the end of the street by the time she looked up. She supposed it was easy to lose track of time when with good company. She looked up to see all the neon lights, she being temporarily blinded. She’s lived here for how long? You’d think she’d learn not to look at the lights directly, no matter how pretty they were. In the near distance, she saw the obnoxious sign for Sweet Tooth’s, which was literally just an ice cream cone. It was so underappreciated. Cadi looked at Arianna when she inquired about said sign. “That’d be it,” she said. As they neared, a vampire made his way into the shop and immediately spotted the girls, but did nothing but frown. Cadi smirked and waved, knowing the guy from another night she’d been here. “Think they serve just plain vanilla?” she joked, seeing another vampire walk out with a cone that closely resembled a bleeding minty dessert.
