tagged; kael! words; 415 outfit; here! notes; yay rushed! To be honest, Victoria was nervous about this. She and her cousin Kael had never been particularly close; this sudden interest in her was making her uneasy. It was happening with more than just Kael. It was with everyone that she met on the streets, or her friends. They all wanted to hang out with her and be her friend one way or another. Was she just someone that looked like a good friend, or were people honestly just going crazy? Tori would never know. The only thing she could do was roll with it and hoped that something good would come out of all of it. That was all one could ever hope for, was it not? Plus, Victoria was always pleasantly optimistic. It was easy to be when you were as innocent and carefree as she was. Walking down the street, she let out a relaxed sigh. She was right on schedule with her timing this morning. Starbucks wasn't that far from where she was now, and they were set to meet there at ten. Why ten? Because they both probably liked to sleep late. Victoria knew she did. Sleeping was one of her favorite things to do, when she could do it. Sometimes she had a nasty case of restlessness, but then she'd just nap later on in the day. Nothing serious, as far as she was concerned. She got a few looks on the way down the street that made her want to go back home. Why were people in New York so odd? Why couldn't they just leave her alone? Oh wait, too convenient. Right. As she approached the coffee place, Vic didn't see Kael anywhere. They were supposed to meet outside of it, but it was so hot that Tori didn't think she would be equipped to do so. Warm weather. What could you do? Honestly, Vic wished it was Winter instead of Summer. That way she could order hot coffee without dying of heat exhaustion or something. She'd have to rely on iced coffee, which was still good, but not the same. What she was constantly craving was hot chocolate, and it was obvious how sad that was to crave in weather like this. If you drank that in Summer, you were completely unhinged and Victoria was not. She was quite intelligent, and knew better. She'd have to keep herself from pouring the ice down her shirt though. It was that hot, and it was only the morning. |

IN THE EARLY MORNING with a dollar in my hand, with an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sand I’m a long way from home & I miss my loved one so. ------ ------ ------ Kael called his dearest cousin Victoria upon the realization that Ashlyn was with what’s-his-name boyfriend and that she wasn’t going to answer her cell phone no matter how many times he threatened her that he would call Uncle Jace. Apparently, he’d never been to keen on keeping to those promises and Ashlyn thought him as a boy who cried wolf, which was partially true, since Kael didn’t want to spoil his chances of having a shopping buddy when the time called for it.
Now, he was not in the mood for shopping—cue audience’s collective gasp here—so early in the morning. Instead, he felt like a nice, sit down breakfast with a nice tall cup of ice coffee and the company of one of his many cousins. There was the entire Midwinter family to consider, but every child on that list was either busy, sleeping, ignoring him, or did not like him. So he crossed dear Lillian off of the list, too, seeing as he didn’t’ want to deal with her lack of sleep. Kael came to the realization that if he was going to want to relax and enjoy some coffee, then he should call one of the two remaining Lightwood children: Victoria or her elder brother. Well, it’s obvious to see which direction that went.
He texted sweet little Victoria a message that basically read “get up now and meet me at Starbucks or your life is over.” He smirked into his phone. She’d reply and then she’d be nervously on her way. Not, to say that Kael enjoyed threatening his cousins—okay, yes he did—but he knew that even Victoria would shrug him off if he’d let her. Nuh-uh. No one shrugs off Kael Matthew Bane, especially some innocent little Lightwood. Hence his threatening text. Oh, mornings were so much fun! And Kael’s favorite part of the morning? Choosing which outfit he’d be wearing, of course! It was even Chairman’s favorite time of the morning, since Kael was also required to pet and feed him (yeah, like Magnus would wake up just to feed the cat and Alec was snoring right beside him). He opened the dusty window to his bedroom and immediately came to the conclusion that it was too hot to walk outside in jeans, protective warlock glamour or not. Kael wasn’t a very big fan of shorts, but he did have one new pair that he wouldn’t mind wearing…
Of course, he did get a million of different looks for his leather shorts—yes, actual, real cow leather. Like hell Kael would be spotted in something as hideous as kaki. He was greeted with admiration, disgust, amusement, and a whole bunch of others. His favorite? Well, one group of punk-esque boys looked at him like they wanted to drag him off into the dark alleyway they were residing him and do all sorts of kinky, sexy things to him. Sick part is, Kael actually deliberated on it. They were quite the bunch of handsome boys. But alas, his mind returned to Tori, who was probably ever so patiently waiting for him at Starbucks by now.
He saw her enter Starbucks, even though he’d specifically told her to wait for him outside, but found he couldn’t blame her. The temperature was climbing exponentially and it was only ten AM for crying out loud! He smiled, sauntered inside after receiving a welcome from one of the staff and tapped his little cousin on the shoulder. “Good morning, Tori. Hope I didn’t keep you long.”

tagged; kael! words; 439 outfit; here! notes; :3 As she stepped into Starbucks, Victoria smiled and waved at the friendly staff behind the counter. They were always such a delight. Perhaps she should work here. That was a thought for another time, though. She waited politely at the door for her cousin. Another reason she was so nervous was that she hoped she was dressed to meet his standards. Then again, she hadn't really tried. She picked two things that looked alright together and shoes to match. Hopefully it was suited for this occasion and he wouldn't outshine her too much, not that she cared, but she didn't want to look unbearably dull. She liked to look bright in a room. Stand out. And without any thought, Victoria usually did just by her hair and bright blue eyes. Not to mention those ruby red lips. Not that she'd bring any of this up herself, but they were a few of the things that caught a lot of attention. Feeling a tap on her shoulder, Victoria immediately whipped around to see her cousin standing there. Offering him a bright smile, she shook her head. "Oh, no. Just a couple of minutes. No big." |
She shrugged and took half a second to assess him. She hadn't hung out with him a lot, but his outfits never let her down. They were always very different, and she liked that about him. Not to mention, he was always very sneaky and sometimes deceitful. Yet another reason that her nervousness was justified. Ashie seemed to be accustomed to Kael, and Victoria supposed it was her turn. Tori did envy how great his hair always looked. Hers looked alright, but not glossy like his. Stupid warlocks and their nice hair. He did earn a number of stares from the people in the place, as was expected. This was Kael Bane, after all. Victoria grinned and stood in line gratefully. She was used to big lines in Starbucks. This one had the best coffee because they didn't spare any of the ingredients like the meaner coffee places did. The ones where they only put the bare minimum in so it tasted accurate but not as awesome as it could? Tori hated those. This one was considerate with their beverages and coffee-making. Tori always ordered the same thing: caramel latte. Whether it was iced or not depended on her mood and the weather. Oh, how she wished she could get it hot. Alas, the weather wasn't fitting. It was times like that in which Vic wished she possessed some sort of magical power to warp the weather into what she wanted for the day. Sigh.[/div] [/div]

IN THE EARLY MORNING with a dollar in my hand, with an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sand I’m a long way from home & I miss my loved one so. ------ ------ ------ Her whip-like motion made Kael take a step back. Sometimes, he forgot that even sweet little Tori was a Nephilim, capable of killing a big bad demon on the spot and not leave a single trace. She offered him a bright smile and even blunt, egotistical Kael’s heart swelled. Aw~ This was one of the reasons he loved to see Victoria, however much he made the effort. Her smiles always brightened his day; there was just something that she did that her siblings couldn’t copy. She brightened the room in a different way than Ashlyn, who would have used her fiery personality to prompt him for his reasons for being late. “Well, Ash I was encountered by a group of really hot guys who wanted to take me into a dark alleyway and make out and I was about to let them until I thought of your pretty face.” Yeah, that would have gone over swimmingly. But no, Tori didn’t ask him for his reason for being late; she’d simply shook her head and told him that he hadn’t kept her waiting long. It was no wonder Kael had chosen her to be the victim of his boredom this morning because frankly, he wasn’t in the mood to be interrogated by anyone else.
Victoria was so…chill…even her choice of clothing, which Kael immediately spotted and did not like. Before he could filter his mouth—he was all too used to speaking with Ashlyn, who would fight back—he said, “What are you wearing-?”
Well, obviously, he could see what she was wearing: a three tiered lace shirt with a pair of cropped shorts. Her shoes were even cropped, with little bubbly circles extending from the material, as if someone had make them out of scrapbook scissors. Just about the only part of her ensemble that Kael could deal with was her necklace. It was a key sort of thing and Kael rather liked that. It gave the whole steam punk vibe, something he was very much a fan of. And because Kael hadn’t caught his icy question in time, Tori made a face and then so did Kael. “Way to be an ass, ass,” he scolded himself. Quickly, he thought of, “I mean, it looks nice, but you have the potential for much more, dear.” Phew. That was a close one. Even Kael would have felt bad for breaking apart innocent Tori. A sudden grin made its way onto her bright red lips and Kael looked around briefly to see that he was being stared again with all assorts of looks. Honestly, he knew he was gorgeous and all, but couldn’t they contain themselves? Mundanes…the nerve. He followed her as she weaved her way through the line; the very big line. “Please tell me we’re not waiting on this…? he asked, but then he spotted an empty table and took advantage of his lucky find. “You know what, I’ll say it, we’re not waiting on this. Come along, Tori.” He’d never been the patient type of warlock… He settled into one of the chairs seated near the table and gestured for Tori to do the same. Sitting down and making himself quite comfortable, Kael leaned forward, poising his chin on folded hands. He grinned and then winked, asking the question, “What do you want? You can have anything.” Before she answered, he conjured up a Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino and a blueberry scone for himself. tagged; kael! words; 436 outfit; here! notes; :3 At Kael's step back, Victoria thought she might have offended him. Her smile didn't fall, though. Her eyes got a bit more sympathetic, yes, but she couldn't apologize for nephilim instincts taking hold of her reaction to the tap. He relaxed, though, and that made her feel a lot better. She suddenly became a lot less nervous about this whole thing. Maybe Kael wasn't as bad as she'd remembered him to be. Okay, bad was a horrid word to describe the boy. He wasn't bad. Sometimes, he could be intimidating, though. That's what she'd meant. Or, rather, what her thoughts meant. She'd never underestimate him, though. Never. At the insult of her choice of clothing, Tori's face did fall. She knew it. The nervousness came back and she looked away quickly. She hated disappointing people like that. She knew she shouldn't care because she didn't even try to impress him, but now she wished she had a rewind button. She'd just turn her cell phone off and hide in her bed all day like she normally did. Or go to the Institute to hang out with Lilly and Ashie. Or something besides this so that she wouldn't have to hurt Kael's eyes by wearing something he didn't approve of. She didn't catch Kael's face as she looked away. She played with her necklace and awkwardly looked around the place for something that could bring her mood back up. At his explanation, Tori looked up at him with those puppy eyes of hers. She didn't mean to, but she did. Her bright blue eyes were a weapon she didn't know she had. Nodding in defeat, Tori decided it wasn't as bad this way. At least he didn't think it was hideous or atrocious or... anyway, happy thoughts. At the impatient tone of Kael's voice, Victoria was confused. What exactly was he going to propose they do as opposed to waiting in line for coffee? Glancing around, she did as she was told and followed the warlock. This day was turning out to be more odd than she'd predicted. Taking her seat, Victoria intertwined her fingers and propped her hands on the leg that was on top of the other, crossed delicately. She and her sister both had nice legs. Vic hadn't thought about it, naturally, but that didn't mean they didn't exist. As he conjured, Tori's breath hitched. What if someone saw that?! She quickly sent some glances around and then relaxed back in her chair. It didn't look like anyone had. "I would love an iced caramel latte." |
She said, softly. She was always rather soft-spoken. [/div] [/div]

IN THE EARLY MORNING with a dollar in my hand, with an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sand I’m a long way from home & I miss my loved one so. ------ ------ ------ Puppy eyes: Kael’s mortal enemy, especially if it was a puppy gaze from Victoria Lightwood. He just couldn’t ignore it and it made him feel all guilty and pathetic inside. Needless to say, it was not a look he enjoyed and so at her puppy eyed face, he averted his gaze as he explained that with her fiery hair and bright gorgeous eyes, she had the potential to dress herself so much more fashionably. Kael thought about what he said for a moment; hm, maybe he could convince little ol’ Tori to go on a shopping trip with him? It’d certainly be fun to dress her up like he did Ashlyn. However, Tori looked more like a porcelain doll than a bad girl in leather. It’s prove to be difficult for Kael, but he was up for the challenge. Maybe she’d walk away with a few new sequin shirts and then everyone would be happy—mostly Kael—but everyone.
With the tiniest amount of amusement, and it was only tiny because Kael couldn’t get passed the idea that someone would actually wait on this horrid line, he saw Victoria’s confused face. Okay, he’d admit, he hadn’t exactly made the effort to spend more time with her than he did her siblings and cousins, but she should at least be aware of his short attention span fuse. She caught on rather quickly and followed after him like a good dog. Ah, she was so much more obedient! If only that rubbed off on the stubborn Ashlyn; that’d make their shopping trips so much easier.
He raised an eyebrow at her posture. It was just so perfect; really she was like a porcelain doll. Right down to the “easily broken” part of the metaphor. In his mind, he started to dress her in all sorts of old, doll Victorian clothing and tilted his head a couple of times to get a better image. He liked what he saw, but doubted very much Tori would let him have his fun. The next thing he heard was a small hitch, a simple rising of her voice. To this, he grinned, even as she looked around to make sure no one witnessed it. “Relax, Tori. I’m pro at this. Besides, you know how stupid mundies are,”
he said and then took a bite into his scone. It was fantastic! The warm doughy biscuit with the cool, crisp blueberries and—ugh! Superb! Almost begrudgingly, he placed it back on the table when Tori told him what he wanted, without any hesitation. Her older brother would have been all over him for “stealing” and “deceit.” Ha, if only he knew… With a smile he said, “Coming right up,” and with a snap of his finger, her order appeared right in front of her. He glanced over to the cash register to witness a lady complaining about her delayed drink making. With a confused expression, the cashier walked over to the pick up area and noticed her order gone. Kael chuckled; well, it was like Magnus taught him: everything conjured had to come from somewhere. tagged; kael! words; 484 outfit; here! notes; :3 Victoria's puppy eyes had the ability to captivate just about anyone, but even she'd admit that she'd be surprised if they did with Kael. If he was anything like Uncle Magnus, he could keep and hold a poker face to just about everything. She listened to his explanation and decided he was right. She supposed she could've embraced her distracting bright red hair and bright eyes, but she'd always been shockingly modest. She knew she wasn't ugly, but she would never flaunt her looks. Putting herself out there wasn't something she did all that often, especially not with clothes. She couldn't be like Ashlyn and wear those party dresses and actually be able to pull them off in a confident way. Victoria would always be tugging at them so that they covered as much as they could. At Kael's eyebrow raise, Victoria raised hers and looked down at herself. What was it this time? She always sat like this. Poise was something she usually always had. With being so painfully petite, it was better to be posture efficient than slumping over like an old woman. She was already frail enough, why increase the pressure on her small frame? He tilted his head and Tori gave up. It couldn't have been something bad that he was looking at or he would have said something by now or made a gesture of disapproval. Relaxing at the logic, Tori looked down at her hands. Logical reactions really were the best ones. Sighing, Tori gave into Kael's logic as well. Mundanes weren't exactly as bright as nephilim and warlocks were, but they weren't stupid. She felt as if she should have argued the point, but there wasn't any sense in it. People would stare and wonder what in the world mundanes were. Naively, of course, because they were wondering what they were. It never failed to shock her how easily someone like her or Kael could walk into Starbucks and order, then in the next second be gone thanks to a handy glamour. They could so easily live amongst mundanes when really they were so much more advanced than the normal human being. It gave Victoria a sense of pride and a little stir of something new, almost like superiority. She didn't like it, though. Most nephilim did value themselves over mundanes, but Victoria felt like she shouldn't. She thought it was rude. After all, what in fact where nephilim protecting? Jumping slightly at the sudden coffee in front of her, Victoria looked up at him and then over at the frustrated lady. It never failed to make her feel bad when a warlock conjured something. After all, it all had to come from somewhere. And it turns out Victoria's desired order had come from somewhere very nearby. Looking into her coffee, she forced a grin and looked up at the boy in front of her. "Thank you." |

IN THE EARLY MORNING with a dollar in my hand, with an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sand I’m a long way from home & I miss my loved one so. ------ ------ ------ While she was distracting herself by looking at her posture, Kael smiled. She was just so—ugh! And so—cute! That was it for him; he decided right then and there that he was going to take this girl shopping, alone, without the interruption of her elder sister or cousins, and have some fun. He started to go over all the stores in his head, which ones would have the dollish clothing he was looking for and which ones were definitely off the list. Victoria’s Secret, however ironic it was, was the first to go. Little Victoria Lightwood didn’t look like the type to be comfortable in undies and push-up bras, at least not in public and with a boy inspecting how they looked on her, however straight he was and despite the fact that he was her cousin, for all intents and purposes. Actually, the idea of having him as her cousin look at her in bras and panties even made him slightly uncomfortable, so Kael pushed the thought of Victoria’s Secret aside and moved onto Forever 21.
At her sighing, Kael chuckled. He knew how she felt about mundanes. She was truly one of the only Nephilim he knew who still had the urge to protect the creatures like their race was supposed to. Most Nephilim abused their power and went around only in search to kill things, whether a mundane be in danger or not. Or, at least, this was what Magnus said, but it could be argued that there was a possibility he was only teasing Alec that night, who hadn’t looked like he’d appreciated the joke. Kael did and after receiving one of the Lightwood’s serious stares, he’d calmed his fit of laughter and excused himself and Chairman Meow from the dinner table. Once he’d gotten into his room, he laughed some more and then stopped, realizing that he was more likely to upset Alec laughing behind closed doors.
And he didn’t like upsetting Alec…or Magnus, for that matter, even though he teased to the two of them to world’s end.
He grinned when she jumped slightly. Aw, poor Vicky. She needed to get out more, especially with a mischievous warlock. Maybe he’d drag her to one of the downtown arcades next: it was always fun to seal other people’s tickets in order to get a better prize. Maybe he’d win her a big stuffed teddy bear if she was having fun, which Kael didn’t doubt she’d have.
“You’re welcome,”
he said and then took a sip of his beverage. It was delicious, better than he actually expected it to be. Strawberries mixed with blueberry scones. It really did feel like summer. That feeling ended when Kael was reminded that he’d finish his. Oh well, he’d have to have another one tomorrow. He wasn’t much in the mood to steal a scone from another store, considering he’d taken the last blueberry one at this branch. The silence was never something Kael enjoyed and staring at Tori’s cuteness just wasn’t gonna cut it. “So what’s been new with you, Tori?” he asked and before she could say “nothing”, he added, “So do you have a guy yet? Any interest in one? Anything of the sort?” He smirked when he saw her hue change ever so slightly.
