_____ _____ _____ *
fey | one thousand three hundred seven | emilie de ravin
For more than two centuries, the Seelie Queen has been ruling over New York’s largest faerie population. In recent years, her once strict regulations and orders have slackened marginally; her people can get away with more than ever now, and it’s resulted in a few visits from the Clave. But the Seelie Queen is just so sick of this horrible balancing act. Keep firm rules with equally harsh punishments, be hated by all of her subjects but keep the Clave happy. Keep loosely held laws with severe punishment for only those who take a flying leap over the line, keep all of her subjects happy and mischievous, but have the Clave come knocking at her door for this that and the other thing. She’s tired, and this game is starting to get really old.
MAGNUS _____ BANE *
warlock | eight hundred sixty-three | adam lambert
The years haven’t changed Magnus a bit, and not just because of his whole never aging warlock mojo. Sure, he’s adopted a son and had a steady boyfriend for longer than he’s ever had before (Alec just won’t accept his marriage proposal, dammit!), but those really haven’t been major lifestyle changes. (Well, okay, maybe adopting his son was. But still!) Magnus still retains his position as the High Warlock of Brooklyn. He still lives in his same loft (with a few more people living in it than just him and Chairman Meow, but with all of the people he’s found passed out drunk after parties, he really didn’t notice a difference.) He’s still dodging requests from the Clave to become the warlock representative of the Council. He’s still flamboyant and sparkly and in love with clothes and still throws the best parties New York has ever seen. Did you ever really expect him to change?

_____ _____ CALDWELL
nephilim | nineteen | shiloh fernandez
Raised by a single mom and a couple of very supportive grandparents, Caldwell learned from a very young age that his father was an off-limits topic of discussion. So he made his way through the nephilim academy, never knowing about the demon blood flowing through his veins. He spent his life wondering why he felt the almost uncontrollable urge to hurt everyone and destroy everything. Note: almost uncontrollable. He faked his way through life, pretending to be a good little shadowhunter. He controlled himself. He pretended like he didn’t feel like everyone around him was completely stupid and worthless. He hid his fascination with the demons he hunted. He tried to be normal. But then, just a few short weeks ago, Daddy Dearest showed up at his doorstep to recruit him.
_____ _____ CARTWRIGHT
nephilim | twenty | max irons
Cartwright knows his life was a little bit different from the norm. He knows he’s a lot bit different, but his father has assured him that different is a good thing. A great thing, actually. Who’d want to be a pathetic, lowly little normal nephilim anyways? They have all these problems, and all they do is whine instead of doing something about it. Not Cartwright; he was raised better than that. His father taught him how to get what he wants, whether with his words or his fists or his daggers it didn’t matter. He’s been preened from a young age to be the smooth-talking, deadly, devious little soldier he is today; a weapon as dangerous to himself as he is to everyone else.
nephilim | nineteen | skyler samuels
The demon blood running black and sticky through her veins isn’t what makes Cartwright a threat; it’s her assurance in herself. She knows that she actually means something special, because her father actually stuck around with her mother long enough to have her. She was unheard of amongst all of her fellow soldiers- a second child. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, her father even raised Cartwright and her brother, a privilege bestowed on them and only them. He taught her how to fight, how to talk, how to fool everyone into believing her as an innocent, how to be the best she could be. Cartwright knows that all of his tutelage is a sign of his affection for her. Why else would he bother is he didn’t like her? She flaunts his fondness for her, and all of the other soldiers hate her for it. Their hatred just fuels her fire.
_____ _____ GARROWAY
nephilim | twenty-four | hayden christiansen
Luke and Jocelyn’s son was raised in an unusual manner for most nephilim. Wanting him to experience as much of life as possible, Garroway’s parents encouraged him to go to mundane school. They encouraged him to join sports teams and after school clubs and to have as normal a life as possible. But there wasn’t really all that much normalcy in his other lessons. Late, late at night, his mother taught him about runes and herbs, and his father taught him how to fight and how to kill. By day, Garroway was the most popular boy in his grade, bright and athletic, maybe a little bad at math, but generally loved. By night, he killed the things that made other people scream and cower away from the movie theater screen. He delved strait into the nephilim work as soon as he graduated high school, but a part of him misses being the golden boy when he stalks home from a hunt covered in demon guts.
werewolf | twenty-one | bryce dallas howard
An anomaly among her kind, Garroway is one of the few born werewolves of her generation. Probably the only born werewolf, if we’re being honest. She inherited her father Luke’s infected lycanthrope gene, and has been turning into something furry and wild for as long as she can remember. She’s long since gotten the changing under control. Like her brother, she was encouraged to live a normal life, and she embraced the opportunity. She was one of the it girls in high school; varsity cheerleader, a boyfriend on the football team, lots of friends and the option to go to at least three parties every single weekend. Garroway was a people person, good at smoothing out conflicts between her friends, very reasonable and opened to opinions. It shouldn’t have surprised everyone so much that when Luke stepped down as leader of the downtown pack, Garroway stepped in to take his place. She met little opposition; everyone had loved her dad, and she was a smaller, prettier version of him.
warlock | twenty-two | alex evans
Its not uncommon for the occasional mundane prostitute to come across a demon in their line of work, and in LaRoque’s case, it was the start of his life. Living in the mundane world with an unmarried mother would have been hard enough even if he didn’t have patches of green skin covering his body, and magic sparking at his fingertips that no one could understand. As it was, he didn’t exactly fit in there. When he turned eighteen, LaRoque
vampire | forty-one | logan lerman
Twenty-five years of high school have sucked major ass. Once it became clear that something wasn’t right about him, that he wasn’t eating and he wasn’t aging, Simon’s family figured out that he was an abomination and kicked him out of the house. As if being rejected by his family wasn’t enough, he wasn’t accepted amongst his fellow vampires either, because he’s a daylighter. He can walk in the sun, an ability that no other vampire has ever had. And if that wasn’t bad enough, he stood by and watched all of his friends grow up around him. They settled down. They had kids. Their kids grew up with “Uncle Simon”, and now they’re starting to surpass him in age. Simon tries not to let it bother him too much, but let’s face it; being a vampire sucks. No pun intended.
ALEXADER _____ LIGHTWOOD
nephilim | forty-three | gaspard ulliel
Alec has opted into some pretty awkward situations in his life, but none more so than his current situation. He hasn’t aged a day since his nineteenth birthday, when he decided that he wanted to stay with Magnus forever and let his warlock boyfriend work some voodoo to make him immortal. Well, not immortal. Alec can still die, which is why Magnus disapproves of him still working as a nephilim and going out to hunt things. He has a warlock son (adopted warlock son, but still.) His sister has a family of her own, and now that they’re parents have retired and moved somewhere pleasant and warm, she’s in charge of the Institute, a position he always imagined he would inherit. If you’d asked him twenty-five years ago where he thought his life would be, this isn’t what Alec would’ve guessed. But he can’t say he’s unhappy with it.
JACE _____ LIGHTWOOD
nephilim | forty-two | simon baker
A nephilim on active duty, Jace still has the highest number of kills of any shadowhutner his age. But then again, he was blessed with the angel’s own gifts- strength, speed, and confidence. Though the confidence can be mistaken for arrogance, and no one quite knows where his snarky attitude came from, there’s no doubt that he’s the best of the best when it comes to hunting. And ever since Inquisitor Ashblood’s untimely death this past spring, he’s been forced to dodge multiple recruiters trying to make him the Inquisitor’s replacement. He’s told them to try on a day that doesn’t end in y. To put it simply, Jace is still Jace, just a little older and a little less reckless now that he has a family to come home to.
CLARISSA _____ LIGHTWOOD
nephilim | forty-one | famke janssen
Thanks to Valentine’s ludicrous idea that the way to cure his wife of her depression was by feeding her angel blood, Clary has been blessed with the ability to remember old, ancient, powerful runes that have fallen out of existence because shadowhunters just forgot about them. She’s been using this ability to help reconstruct the grey book when she’s not busy doing other things. And doing other things includes being an on duty shadowhunter, raising three unruly teenagers (don’t get her wrong, she loves her kids, but would it kill them to pick up after themselves?), and trying to make it in the tough world of art and paintings. She’s taking all of the pressure with good grace and a level head, but Clary was always the more rational one.
nephilim | nineteen | alex pettyfer
With two sisters, it doesn’t matter that Lightwood is older and bigger; he’s been forced to play dress up and sit through tea parties. Now that his sisters are older, they drag him to chick flicks and make him come shopping with them to give his opinion on their clothes. They make him dress up, too, because to them he’s their own personal life-sized Ken doll. Lightwood knows he should mind. People probably think he’s gay, or a wuss, but he just loves his sisters. If trying on a few ridiculous outfits makes them happy, he’ll do it. He’s secure enough in his masculinity to endure any of the things they can come up with, as long as he can get a bit of guy time here and there. Or a bit of hunting, because no matter who goes with him, he comes out of it feeling tough and unstoppable, like absolutely nothing could go wrong in the world that he couldn’t fix. Lightwood is like his dad that way.
nephilim | seventeen | anna lutoskin
Lightwood has always been a boy’s girl. It just sort of happened. It was probably inevitable, having spent the first year of her life with an older brother and two older boy cousins. Even though her sister and a girl cousin were born just a year after her, Lightwood never really got into all of the girly things. Sure, when she was little, they would all play with dolls or have tea parties or whatever, but as she grew up she got into sports and video games and hunting and books (not really a gender specific thing, but whatever.) She’d never really liked skirts or dresses or frilly, pink things. She’s always been the girl chillin’ around with the boys, and she doesn’t really think that that’s going to change.
nephilim | sixteen | vanessa jade
The baby of the family, Lightwood has always had to prove herself. She’s had to be strong enough, fast enough, clever enough to keep up with her older siblings, or else they wouldn’t let her play with them or tag along on a hunt. She’s spent her whole life trying to live up to their standards, that she’s never really even had time to learn who she is to crawl back into herself at the end of the day. So she’s taken to experimenting. Is she goth? Bohemien? Girly-gril or tomboy? Does she like reading like her sister, or video games like her brother? In her search for herself, Lightwood has taken to hanging out with her Uncle Simon, because he’d never seemed to believe her when she was trying to be flirty like her sister or arrogant like her brother. It’s like he saw through her glamour and knew who she was, and now she needs help figuring that out.
MELIORN _____ _____ *
fey | eight hundred twenty-nine | boyd holbrook
The Seelie Queen’s faithful subject turned mouthpiece, Meliorn volunteered himself to be the fey representative to the Council all those years ago because his queen wanted one of her own in the powerful position. It’s just the way Meliorn is; loyal to his queen, passionate for his people, willing to figt for fey rights even though he’s rather quiet and maybe a little meek around the edges. He doesn’t say much unless either directly spoken to, or forced to voice his opinion because everyone else is being stupid and blathering about pointless thing. He remains one of the Court’s most honorable knights, travelling back and forth between his home in New York and his duties to the Council in Idris.
_____ _____ MIDWINTER
nephilim | forty-four | robert downey jr.
Cast off by his family for wanting to be a professor at the Shadowhunter Academy instead of a warrior on the front-lines, Midwinter went on an expedition to explore the world before settling down as a teacher. His journey came to a sudden halt in New York City when he met Isabelle Lightwood. She’s been known to have that effect on people, after all. He pursued her, and she took an interest in him. He was charming, and romantic, if not a little cheesy and goofy. He made- makes, technically- her smile, and after two years of courting her, she finally accepted his proposal to be his wife. Midwinter settled down in a mechanical city so different from his small hometown in Idris for her, and took the tutor position at the Institute. In the end, he got everything he wanted, plus a bit more.
ISABELLE _____ MIDWINTER *
nephilim | forty-one | catherine zeta jones
Isabelle has been a very, very busy bee ever since she met her now husband Midwinter. There was the whirlwind courtship (he swears that they dated for two years, but it felt like two months to her.) Then there was the wedding, then the kids. Oh, the kids! She’d once claimed that she’d be a horrible mother, because she’d get too irritated with their whining and screaming and “play with me, Mommy!”s. Then she actually had kids, and melted into this perfect, doting mother who could build block castles and watch Disney movies for hours on end and then turn around and punish one of her kids for stealing cookies when they were in the kitchen and she was in the living room picking up toys. And then her parents retired, and she took over running the Institute because it was her home, and it felt wrong to let it slip out of the family. It’s a miracle that, even with everything else on her plate, Isabelle has never once had a bad hair day or been missing the right accessory.
nephilim | twenty | ian somerhalder
The oldest of four children, Midwinter has always felt the need to cause trouble. It was the only way to get attention as a child, with his parents so full-handed with his three younger siblings. Then when he became a teenager, the bad boy act worked as a great way to impress the ladies. He had this aloof, dangerous demeanor, helped along by his battle scars and hunting gear. He was reckless, putting himself into dangerous situations to impress people or make them pay attention to him. His dorky qualities, like a fanboy obsession with Star Trek and his collection of classic novels in their original Spanish and Russian and Romanian, got buried under his dark, dangerous exterior.
nephilim | nineteen | kevin zegers
Since there are still more male shadowhunters on active duty than there are female, the Institute is filled dominantly with men eighty-seven percent of the time. Midwinter totally wouldn’t mind, if it weren’t for the fact that he’s been struggling to decide whether he’s straight or gay or bi or what. The conflict has been bothering him ever since a downworld party eight months ago, when he got so trashed that he kissed a boy and he liked it. Since he’s not sure, Midwinter is going out of his way to try and prove to himself that he’s… well, it changes from day to day. Some days he’s straight, others he’s gay, others he just doesn’t even want to think about it. The worst part about this whole thing is that the only person who knows about this conflict is his cousin, Lightwood (19), who Midwinter has had an on-off crush on since that night.
nephilim | sixteen | nicholas hoult
Midwinter and his sister are twins in the sense that yin and yang are two halves of the whole. Where she’s tiny and completely comfortable in her skin, he’s six foot one and feels like a fish out of water. He’s tall and lanky and twiggy, just all around awkward, and he hasn’t quite yet learned how to move in his body. He tries to be a good shadowhunter- he knows all of the runes and is good at herbal remedies and can tell you anything about any type of demon like he’d been waiting for you to ask for forever, but he’s just a bit too uncoordinated to actually fight. In a family of kick-ass demon hunters, the inability to hold his own in a fight has landed a major blow on Midwinter’s self-esteem. As if he weren’t already uncomfortable enough!
nephilim | sixteen | kaya scodelario
The spitting image of her mother, Midwinter is almost like a clone of Isabelle at sixteen. She’s fierce, she’s perceptive, she’s good with boys and great at picking badass outfits that make her look like Barbie’s demon-hunting best friend. She’s a tomboy who dresses like a girly-girl, and that makes her fit in well with her three brothers. One of the few differences between Midwinter and her mother are that Midwinter is petite, a loud, rude, opinionated spitfire with such a big personality crammed into a tiny little package. And Midwinter can cook, but not because anyone ever taught her. She latched on to some genetic mutation that couldn’t possibly have come from either of her parents that makes her a culinary genius who can create brilliantly delicious meals with the scraps of food in the Institute’s kitchen.
RAPHAEL _____ SANTIAGO *
vampire | seventy | gael garcía bernal
The current head of the vampire coven living in the Hotel Dumort, Raphael is having a hard time keeping his people in check. Ever since they accidentally brought rat-boy into their humble abode and got ambushed by nephilim and werewolves in the same night, his grip as the leader has been slipping. After a few too many favors to the Clave and a few too many personal attacks, his coven had it. Over the past couple of years, there’ve been quite a few attempts to overthrow Raphael. So far, they’ve all been unsuccessful. But Raphael’s now even more controlling and bossy, trying to compensate for his people’s dislike and lack of faith in him while at the same time trying to appease the Clave to keep his people out of harm’s way. All of this work is putting a strain on him, and the lack of gratitude is driving him batty.
nephilim | forty-three | paul bettany
Born Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern, Sebastian changed his name several times throughout the duration of his life. First when he was eighteen, to complete his disguise as a harmless, normal shadowhunter that allowed him to take down Alicante’s protective guards and help his father’s demonic attack on the city. Again after the battle failed, when he wandered half-dead into Germany and spoke with a warlock about getting his severed hand reattached. Again and again and again with each new girl he met and then abandoned after they gave birth to his children. Sebastian has built himself an army of half-demon shadowhunter children, and although he remembers all of his aliases perfectly, he’s forgotten who he really is.
